Often, parking in Abu Dhabi has been a
complicated process for people visiting from other Emirates. Along with
reserved parking spaces for Abu Dhabi residents and their strictly controlled
timings, the registration of your vehicle before being able to pay by SMS has
always made the process inconvenient and full of hassle. This new system will
run alongside the old system that needs the motorists to be registered with the
Mawaqif App.
The Department of
Transport (DoT) has decided to make this
process easier and more efficient by making changes in the system. In the month
of January this year, the DoT introduced new codes and a new SMS system that
eliminates the need of being registered with Mawaqif.
As per the new system, the code for the city
of Abu Dhabi has been changed from “RED” to “AUH”.
The new format for SMS parking in Abu Dhabi is
“City and Plate Code <SPACE> Plate Number <SPACE> Parking Type
<SPACE> Duration”. Parking Type in the code refers to the two categories
of parking. Either “S” which is Standard Parking chargeable AED 2 for one hour
or “P” which is Premium Parking chargeable AED 3 for one hour.
To help you understand this code better,
here’s an example :
For a Dubai registered vehicle opting for one-hour standard parking, the code will be –
“DXBJ 54543 S 1”
Here’s a list of city codes of different
emirates –
Dubai – DXB , SHJ for Sharjah, AJM for Ajman, UAQ for Umm Al Quwain, RAK for Ras Al Khaimah, FUJ for Fujairah.
Due to the elimination of the need of being registered with the Mawaqif app to be able to pay the parking fees by SMS, this new system is the ideal system for motorists drivingrent a car in Abu Dhabi be it a rental car from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain.
